Aligned with its CSR strategy, LuxConnect, with the support of the energiagence, is working since several years on its carbon footprint analysis.
The chosen organizational perimeter consists of the following 6 activities:
- LuxConnect’s headquarter in Bettembourg
- its Dark Fiber entity
- and four Data Centers: DC1.1., DC1.2 and DC 1.3 in Bettembourg and DC2 in Bissen
It was calculated using the Bilan carbone® tool (version 8.10), which has been developed, in 2004, by ADEME (Agence de l’environnement et de la maîtrise de l’énergie). The results comply with the requirements of the GHG or Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
The operational perimeter includes the 3 scopes:
Scope 1: emissions from mobile and stationary combustion and fugitive emissions
Scope 2: consumption of electricity and cooling
Scope 3: purchase of goods, capital and services fuel- and energy- related activities, waste, employee commuting and business travels
The carbon footprint of LuxConnect amounts to 1.177t CO2e in 2023 (market-based approach). As for the results of the 2021 analysis, at 1.567t CO2e, they represent a significant reduction of 25%, given that our energy consumption has increased by 11% in two years due to the evolution of our activities.
But how did we manage this?
- No emissions related to refrigerants
- Reducing the quantity of waste
- No refill of fuel in 2023
To conclude, our method is first of all to analyze our carbon footprint at least every two years, then we compensate and during a workshop involving all the entities of our company, we are brainstorming on how we can optimize even more.
